Mykonos Mediterranean Restaurant

Mykonos Mediterranean Restaurant Greek Restaurant

Overview

Walking into Mykonos Mediterranean Restaurant feels like stepping off the Berlin Turnpike and straight into a relaxed coastal taverna. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday, and the consistency is what keeps pulling me back. The location at 2414 Berlin Tpke, Newington, CT 06111, United States makes it an easy stop whether you’re local or just passing through, and parking is never a headache, which already sets the tone right.

The menu leans heavily into Greek and Mediterranean comfort food, but it’s not stuck in the past. You’ll see classics like gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, and grilled lamb chops, yet everything is handled with care and balance. On one visit, I watched the kitchen prep fresh vegetables and marinate meats early in the afternoon, which explains why the flavors feel clean instead of heavy. The chicken gyro, for example, comes off the grill juicy, not greasy, wrapped with warm pita and finished with house-made tzatziki that actually tastes like yogurt, cucumber, and garlic instead of bottled sauce.

What stands out is how the food aligns with what nutrition research has been saying for years. Studies published by Harvard Health and the World Health Organization consistently point to the Mediterranean diet as one of the healthiest eating patterns, emphasizing olive oil, lean proteins, vegetables, and whole grains. You can taste that philosophy here. Dishes rely more on herbs, citrus, and grilling rather than frying, which makes it easy to leave satisfied without feeling weighed down.

I once brought a colleague who follows a strict pescatarian diet, and the staff walked her through several menu options without hesitation. She landed on grilled salmon with lemon and oregano, paired with a Greek salad loaded with tomatoes, olives, and feta. That flexibility matters, especially as more diners look for meals that fit specific lifestyles. Reviews from regulars often mention the same thing: the staff listens, and substitutions don’t feel like an inconvenience.

Speaking of reviews, locals tend to describe the experience with words like authentic Greek flavors and generous portions, and that’s accurate. Portions are big enough to share, or to guarantee leftovers the next day. I’ve reheated their roasted potatoes more than once, and they somehow still hold onto that olive oil and herb flavor without drying out.

The dining room itself keeps things casual. You’ll see families, solo diners, and small groups grabbing a quick bite before heading home. The service style matches the vibe-friendly, efficient, and never rushed. During a busy weekend dinner, our server checked in just enough to be helpful without hovering, which is harder to pull off than people think.

One thing worth noting is that peak hours can mean a short wait, especially on Friday evenings. While takeout moves fast, dine-in seating can fill up quickly. That said, the turnover is steady, and the food quality doesn’t dip when the room is full, which speaks volumes about how the kitchen is run.

From a broader perspective, Mediterranean cuisine has been recognized by organizations like UNESCO for its cultural importance, and places like this keep that tradition alive in a modern, accessible way. Mykonos Mediterranean Restaurant doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it focuses on doing the basics right-fresh ingredients, respectful preparation, and warm hospitality-making it a reliable spot that earns its reputation meal after meal.

We had a wonderful dinner at Mykonos and couldn’t have asked for a better first experience with authentic Greek food and wine. Our waiter Steve was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. Since it was our first time really exploring Greek cuisine we trusted his recommendations completely and every single one was a hit. We started with the keftedes which were perfectly seasoned and delicious. For entrΓ©es I had the lamb kokkinisto which was incredibly tender and rich with a deep comforting red sauce. My wife had the thalassina a beautiful seafood dish with shrimp calamari and mussels in a light lemony sauce that was fresh flavorful and perfectly cooked. Steve also recommended a Greek red wine called Ennea and it paired wonderfully with the meal. It was smooth balanced and complemented both dishes really well. The atmosphere was calm, warm, and inviting making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Prices were very fair for the quality of food and service. We left full happy and already looking forward to coming back. Oh... And they gave us complimentary cookies!!! Can't go wrong with that!!!

Happy we finally came to try out Mykonos! Very cute atmosphere. Our server, Stephen, was really helpful with giving recommendations and answering our questions. Our dishes were delicious and perfect portions. I'm excited to try more off of the menu. Also got a complimentary dessert at the end of our meal which was a really nice surprise, especially because it was delicious!!!

If you love Greek food - you love garlic. I really enjoyed the bread at the beginning, with a small saucer of oil and whole cloves of garlic. Maybe you could just not eat the garlic if you're on a date. But I ate it. Also ate the pretty salad garnishes, and eggplant skin. My company informed me I was not supposed to eat the stuffed eggplant skin. I had it one before and enjoyed it much more, this time it was drenched in balsamic vinegar and I enjoy vinegar more than the average person. And found the skin helped mellow it all out a bit. My table just ordered appetizers and we had a bite of everything but sound our faves and had our fill. I think this is a great place to bring family. You share, you smell of garlic, you laugh and enjoy... Family. Or order pickup. The majority of the food being made looked as though it were all being take away.

This place was bumping when I got there and they still did such a great job being attentive and getting my food out on time despite being so busy. When I go to Greek places I usually try to order a bunch of stuff to try. I got a large horiatiki salad, spanakopita, dolmathes, and a side of fries. I did not realize how massive the portion sizes were, otherwise I would have ordered a bit less. I am not complaining though, more to eat later! All of the food was delicious and I was very happy eating here. For dessert I had Greek coffee and a chocolate cake. Loved the whole experience.
